Highlights
Retailers warned that gains in March would not be matched in April, and ICSC-UBS's index offers perhaps the earliest evidence of a month-to-month give back. Year-on-year sales were at only a 2.1 percent pace in the April 21 week, down 2 tenths in the week and down from a 4.9 percent peak only three weeks ago. The week-on-week decline was 0.3 percent. The Easter calendar shift is behind April's slowdown as is unusually cold weather which is holding back sales of seasonal items. Redbook is up next.
