Market Reflections

February 22, 2018
US equities stabilized Thursday after Wednesday’s late afternoon swoon. The Dow and S&P added 0.7 percent and 0.1 percent respectively while the Nasdaq swooned 0.1 percent. Bond yields eased while commodities and especially oil prices rallied and the US dollar declined.

Concerns about a faster pace of rate increases from the Federal Reserve were eased by Thursday’s comments from St. Louis Fed President James Bullard. He expressed concerns that a "a bunch of increases” could turn Fed policy restrictive.

Weekly jobless claims declined 7,000 to 222,000 for the February 17 week pointing to strength in the March 2 employment report.
