Negotiations to reach a stop-gap funding bill before tonight's midnight deadline and government shutdown held stocks in check during the session as the Dow posted a fractional loss to 26,071. But for the week, the Dow gained a full 1.0 percent.
Both oil, at $63.50, and gold, at $1,334, slipped slightly in the week. The risk of a shutdown didn't help demand for Treasuries were the 10-year yield rose 11 basis points to 2.66 percent. The dollar continues its slide, down 0.3 percent in the week on the dollar index to 90.64.
